how do I disable the autoplay when I put in a cdrw?

We run a dos app in full screen mode.
We are using preformatted (Nero Express InCD) Verbatim cdrw media.
When we put in the cdrw for backing up, the dos app minimizes and the
contents of the cd is displayed in a windows explorer window. How can we
prevent this? I have right clicked the cd drive and selected "do nothing".
Must I do this for all types?

Simply hold down the shift key while inserting the CD,

Or, right click on the drive icon and make adjustments under the autoplay
tab.

I found a group policy object that disables autoplay.
