How do I Disable Microsofts Win2K DVD Player?

G

Greg Haas

I recently upgraded from Win98se to Windows 2000. Prior to my OS
upgrade I had been happily using PowerDVD. Now, after upgrading,
every time I insert a DVD Movie this funky Microsoft DVD player starts
to autorun. I presume it is media player 6.4 doing this, as it does
not look like WMP 9, but cannot be sure as it is not labeled.

How do I disable or uninstall this Win2K DVD player? PowerDVD still
runs fine if I close the MS player manually start it.

Thanks for all help.

Does PowerDVD has any options to set itself as the default player? That
should work, if it offers that.

This should be due to the value set for
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\play\shell\command
, I'd think.

I have the same problem with nero's dvd player. The w2000 player
starts up 1st. I looked under file types for vob ect but no luck.
I wouldn't hate the microsoft player so much except it has no "always
on top" mode.

tia if anyone has a answer

Nero Fix

That's what it took for me to fix it... rather than taking out the entry and expecting Nero to be default, I had to change the command line to:

C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero ShowTime\ShowTime.exe /Play %L

Fixed my problem.... hope it helps you... For PowerDVD, you'll have to find out the command line for it to play the movie... and change it accordingly...
