How do I change the file name of .msg files?

Rather than have the email's subject appear as the msg filename, how can I
get the date, sender, receiver, etc to appear as the filename instead?

Alternately, I don't mind having the subject as the filename, provided there
is a quick and easy way to sort .msg files by sender, receiver, date sent or
received, etc. Otherwise, I have to open all the msg files (or import to
Outlook) to know exactly who received it, when it was sent, etc. This defeats
the purpose, as we want a quick simple way of browsing our email archives.

Thank you.

You are free to type any name you want for your files.
Why not archive to pst-files instead?
Using an indexer on your archive could provide an outcome in searching
functionality but when it comes to sorting Explorer cannot possibly offer
all the functionality that Outlook has when it comes to email; it's not a
mail client.

If you are looking for an Outlook independent way of archiving, then this

Thanks for your response. We currently create pst files, but I'd much rather
copy-paste all individual email messages into a folder, for quick and easy
archive browsing. This saves the trouble of having to open the pst file in
Outlook.

I wanted Outlook to give me the option to save .msg files with
Date/Recipient/Subject as each email's individual name, rather than merely
display the email's subject in the file name. But it seems that's not an
option, unless I manually change each msg file's name (which is not an option
when there is a large volume of emails).

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into the software that you have
suggested.

I don't see how this is "quick and easy", since you must drag the messages
back into Outlook to read them anyway.

No, msg-files can be directly opened in Outlook by double clicking them in
Explorer.
If this is not the case for you, the file association for msg-files might be
set incorrectly on your computer.

True, but it still opens Outlook to view them. It does for me. I don't
know of any other "viewer" that will present them properly.

They will open in Outlook indeed, but there would be no need to drag them
back into Outlook first. That's what I responded to ;-)
