How do I change auto-archiving to use created date not modifed?

When setting up auto-archive I instructed Outlook 2003 to archive all items
over 3 years old. After completing the archive sequence, I checked some of
the folders and there is still mail that is older than 3 years.

After further investigation I discovered that, using search, there are no
emails left with a 'MODIFIED' date of more than 3 years - but a lot of emails
with a 'CREATED' date.

What can I do to get these emails archived?
