Unable to archive emails older than a year with Outlook 2003 and the Modified Date is old enough

Hi,

I am trying to use the Auto Archive feature in Outlook 2003. I have
it set to archive files older than 6 months. It did archive some
emails, but the much older emails (over a year old) are not
archiving. I looked at the Modified Date of these files and they are
indeed old enough to be archived.

Is there something else I need to check? Thanks!

Perhaps the msgs have had their properties changed to 'do not archive' or
they are in a folder with this option set?
A workaround, if the above is not the case, would be simply to move then to
your archive.

Hi DL,

I did check the folders for "Do not archive", but they are fine. Some
of the files in the folders were archives successfully, but it's just
the really old ones that are not getting caught.

I did experiment with just moving these files, as you had suggested,
but it seems like their references are the only thing that moves. The
file size of the Outlook.pst and the archive.pst do not change. I'm
trying to get my Outlook.pst file size down. That's kinda why I
decided to use Auto Archive. Bummer. :-(

Any other suggestions, or things to check, anyone? Thanks!

Individual mail can be marked as 'not archive'
Not sure what you mean by references.
You cut & paste as opposed to copy?
The pst size wont change untill its compacted.
OL2003 unicode format doesnt have the size limitation of the earlier
version.

Hi DL,

Yeah. I did compact both of the .pst files after doing a move (yeah,
I did do a move and not a copy...I tried right click dragging with a
move and then I tried highlighting all the emails I wanted to move and
then right clicked, chose move, and then chose the archive folder),
but the size of the .pst file never went down. With the second move
method that I tried (right clicking and chosing move from the pop-up
menu), the archive.pst file did increase, but the Outlook.pst file
never went down. Then when I moved the emails back to the original
folder from the archive folder using the same method, the archive.pst
file never went back down again and just stayed the larger file size.
I even tried compacting it, but it wouldn't go back down to what it
was before. Strange, huh?

Maybe I'm just up a creek with all of this? Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I was wrong. I guess that I just didn't move enough emails to change
the Outlook.pst file size. I moved a bunch of emails manually to the
archive folders and it worked. Thanks!
