I can only scroll with the cursor in the vertical scroll bar. Is there some
way to release the system so I can scroll with the cursor on the page?

There is no way to place the cursor (blinking line at the insertion point)
in the vertical scroll bar, so I assume you mean the mouse pointer. And the
answer is no, you can't get the equivalent (in other programs) of the hand
that allows you to drag the view up or down. But you can use the arrow keys
to go up or down, or, if you have a wheel mouse, you can probably scroll
using the wheel.

Hi scalex,

It can depend on your mouse settings, version of Word and view setting.

If, for example, you are in print layout view and don't have any text selected in the document you may be able to scroll by either
(a) turning the mouse wheel or (b) clicking the mouse wheel to get the 'live scrolling' icon on the screen then dragging the mouse
up or down slightly to start the scrolling until you click the mouse wheel again.
