How can I safely update Thunderbird ?

I am running Thunderbird 1.0.2 on Windows XP. How do I update to the
latest version 1.5.0.4 without losing my mail folders ?

AFAIK, you should just be able to download and run the setup program and
it'll upgrade you. The mail folders should be compatible between 1.0
and 1.5.
