How can I reinstall IE ?

I've got the latest version of IE installed but for some reason it's now
unusable.

Every time I run IE now I get a pop-up box with tthe following:

Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer|iexplore.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I can no longer run IE which means I can no longer get Windows updates.

When I try to download the latest IE 6 Service Pack 1 (9/21/2005) I try to
install and get a message saying:

Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on
this system. Setup cannot continue.

How do I get this problem fixed? I can no longer run IE nor can I get it
reinstalled.

Windows version? Was the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update?

1. If you have Google Toolbar/Deskbar installed, uninstall it. If you want
it back, download the newest versions from http://labs.google.com/.

2. If your problem's being caused by hijackware, reinstalling IE won't help:
Hijackware infects Windows, not IE.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

You are heading in the wrong direction.
Do not try and reinstall IE.
Try uninstalling the Google toolbar using Control Panel-Add/Remove.
