How can I manage users in XP pro like I did in Win 2k?

Having used Windows 2000 for years I recently got an XP Pro machine.
There are several people using it and I would like to give them all
varying degrees of freedom to use the computer as I did with Win2k.

I am used to the user accounts available in Win 2k. With XP Pro it
seems that I can only have Administrators and (very!) Restricted Users.

Is there any way for me to be able to have to same user account types
as I did with Win2k? My machine is standalone and part of a workgroup.

I have read (with limited understanding) that if I choose to join a
domain I get to manage users more effectively. Can I do this with
just a standalone PC (i.e. my PC is the domain)?

I don't know why you think you can't manage users just as effectively in XP
Pro as you can in Win2k. You can. It isn't any different. Here are some
links to help you:

Like Win2k, XP Pro has the Group Policy Editor to set fine-grained
permissions. Start>Run>gpedit.msc [enter]
