Tim

I have a new desktop running XP Home which came with no Win Office
installed. I have Office 2K
Professinal retail that I purchased a few years back which I ran on Win 2K
OS. after I installed on
the new XP Home machine and try to update Office 2K pro from the Office
update site I and click
Check for Updates I receive this "Sorry, the Office Update site does not
support Office for Mac"
this desktop is certainly not a Mac! Office 2k works fine but I feel
unprotected. Can some Please tell what the problem is. Thanks in advance.

Correct. Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of
its individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.

There may be something "off" on the Office Update site, or it may be
that you need Office2K SR1 before the site will work properly. (I have a
vague memory to that affect, but it's been a couple of years since I've
had to support Office2K. Sorry.)

Try going to:

Microsoft Download Center
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en

Do a search on Office 2000, and you should find quite a few offerings.
Download and install Office 2000 SR-1a and Office 2000 SP3, in turn.
These will fix most of the vulnerabilities, and might enable you to use
the Office Update site in the future.
