XP Pro Mapped To Win 2k

Guys: I have had this problem for some time and cannot seem to find a solution for it. I have a Windows 2000 machine with a shared folder. I want to connect to that shared folder from my XP Pro machine.

When I try to connect to the 2k machine, having gone both via My Network Places and the run command, I get a username password window and when I type in my information I get: the local device name is already in use.

Both machines are on the same domain and other Win 2k machines have no connection problems at all. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Thanks everyone.

Have you added the XP box to the domain on the domain server? What
server operating system are you running? Is the Win2k box being used as
the server? Please post back with more details about your network setup
for more specific answers.

Yes. The XP machine and the 2000 machine are both a part of the Windows 2000 domain. The 2k box is not being used as a server i.e. it does not have any local users but there are three users on the domain that will access the files that are located on the Win 2k machine.

Thanks Malke

Hi - I'm a little tired, so forgive me if I'm not getting this
perfectly. It's so much easier to troubleshoot network problems from a
hands-on perspective. Anyway, what it sounds like is that the users who
want to get the resources on the XP box aren't getting authenticated by
the XP box. I would make user accounts (and assign passwords) on the XP
box identical to the ones on the Win2k box. Or maybe you are putting
files someplace like My Documents that doesn't allow sharing. Are you
putting the files in the Shared Files folder? Try making the user
accounts, and if that doesn't work, post back and give me a bit more
detail about what you're doing so I get a really good picture.

Cheers,

Malke
