How can I install XP onto a USB hard drive?

I want to install XP onto an external USB hard drive.
(Or would it be btter to install onto a Firewire drive?)

How do I do this?
I want to install on my laptop.
It has it's own booting options.
One of them is FDD - is this the USB that might be connected?

You can't - well there are some places where they SAY they've managed to get
it working, but it's not generally possible. XP was not designed to be
booted from anything other than an internal drive - although i beleive if
you use an external SATA drive it can be done - as the BIOS sees that as
internall. But USB and firewire? No.
