I have a SMC Router that has a built in print server, Ihave already
connected the printer to it, but don´t work
Need help pls

I have a ASUS WL500 with a printer server. Before I updated to XP I just couldn't get it work at all

The way I set up my printer server was that I first installed the printer driver on the machine; set up the printer as if it's connected to the machine. Then changed the printer port from COM1, USB etc to Remote Port (this was done using the installation CD from the router manufacturer)

Failing that contact the router manufacturer's support. Please note that not all printer made/models can be supported by the router. Your router manufacturer will have a list of printers tested

Thank´s fpr the advice, but it seems to be that my hp laserjet 1015 printer,
does not support network sharing, via print server.

Typically SMC routers probably use LPR printing. So you need to configre
a "Local Printer Port" (not Network) for TCP printing. I did not quite
know what device to pick for my Linksys switch/printserver in XP Home, so
I just picked PRINTSERVER and later changed it from Raw port 9100 (which
is JetDirect) to LPR (which uses port 515). The printer queue is ether
called lp or lpt1 (check your router docs).

Then pick your printer or one closest to it (if you installed it locally
first you should have a driver for it in the list). HP LaserJets are
actually somewhat flexible since their PCL is backwards compatible. For
example I was able to get WordPerfect 5.1 in DOS to successfully print
fine to an HP 2200DTN when I told WP it was an HP Laserjet III (even
though dpi was different between those printers), although, in that case
it was directly connected on parallel port.

I have printed to my HP LaserJet 4L on an SMC router (7004AWBR), but from
Linux. Some inkjet printers may not be network compatible (especially if
they cannot be shared in Windows) because they use CPU intensive Windows
only drivers that do rastor graphics printing for everything, with no
built-in fonts or printer control language (will not even print ascii text
without a driver).
