How are odd and even page numbers inserted into chapters, manuscr.

Trying to insert page numbers in a 13 chapter manuscript. Each chapter is in
a separate file. The first page of each chapter is counted but not shown and
begins with an odd-number. The pages with odd numbers are numbered at the top
right. The pages with even numbers are at the top left. At the top of each
page with the page number is the title of each chapter centered.

Is there any way for Word to automatically insert the page numbers and
titles of each chapter rathern than manually inserting page numbers and
titles?

PLEASE HELP!

The easiest (though not necessarily the best) way to achieve this type of
numbering is with Insert | Page Numbers. Select "Top of page (Header)" for
the Position and "Outside" for the Alignment. Clear the check box for "Show
number on first page." If you have a specific starting number other than
one, click on Format... and set the "Start at" number.

This assumes that you will not have any other text in the header. If you
will, then you should put the page numbers directly in the header, using the
"Different first page" and "Different odd and even" settings; see
