Hotmail - Read email appears as Unread when return to Inbox

hi,
I have a laptop with Windows XP Home Edition and IE v6 (OEM). I have AVG
(antivirus), Lavasoft Ad-Aware (anti-spyware) & Zone Alarms (anti-popups).
When using Hotmail through Internet Explorer I encounter a problem.

Go to Inbox - read/view emails - return to Inbox and those emails I read are
still 'marked' as Unread. Also, when I check my Junk Mail folder - action
the emails accordingly (i.e. Not Junk Mail or Delete & Report as Junk Mail) -
then return to Inbox, it states that there are still emails 'unread', so to
speak, in Junk Mail.

One thought I had was to re-install IE (somehow!?), however I don't know how
to go about doing that since IE is OEM version.

Does the behavior persist if you access the account using another machine?

Are you accessing the account via www.hotmail.com or http://live.com?

No, I only encounter this problem on this laptop. I have tried it on about 4
other machines without any issue.

See if using Clean Boot Troubleshooting technique allows you to identify the
application running in the background that's causing the problem.
