hotmail attachments

Hi all,

Ive got a basic query;

Im trying to attach mp3 files with mail to send it - as u do - however
recently whenever ive tried to perform this action it takes unusually long
then a white page appears which basically says that the page is unavailable
and that it could be a server problem or a problem with my browser??? Now ive
done this PLENTY of times before..but recently and consistently i have been
prevented from performing this action. I thought it might be a hotmail
systems problem but others can send mp3 files...is it a virus problem?
settings problem? any advice would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks Guys/Girls

Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.

a song - 4.3mb

That's a huge attachment to send by email. You didn't say how you
connect to the Internet, but if you use dialup your connection is
undoubtedly timing out. What ISP do you use?

From your description of the problem the attachment isn't getting to
Hotmail's servers, although I very much doubt that Hotmail will let you
send such a large attachment anyway. They may not allow it into their
servers either.

Also, if you are sending it to someone who only has dialup, you'll
effectively choke the recipient's email. It would take a really long
time for someone to download a 4.3MB file and no other mail will be
received during the process.

Have you routinely sent such large files before? If so, what changed
between that time and now?

Even if it's not dialup, many ISPs restrict the size of E-mail messages. I
don't know what hotmail does, but it's possible that this could be over
their limit.

You're right - that's what I meant when I wrote "They may not allow it
into their servers either". I should have been more explicit. I have a
vague memory of most ISP's not allowing anything bigger than 1.5MB.

Check the limits on the size of emails you can send and also, the size
of emails the person you are sending to can recieve. Many email services
have max limits on the size of an idividual email.

And, many persons set limits/filtes, on the size of the emails they
chose to get.

See replies of others.

An attachment adds a ~40% markup to the size of your email. A 4.3MB
attachment to a (e.g.) 10KB message becomes a 6.02MB email!

40%?

It's 43,000%,. if I didn't get a decimal place wrong. ;-)
