So I did read many posts about the lack of access to Hotmail from windows
mail..
Anything new on this subject.. So what is the easiest way to get your
hotmail.. I use my hotmail account often when signing into websites where I
don't want my regular account to be spammed, so I check it often. I
certainly don't want to go to the website, nor would I want to fire up
another program.. Is the a solution... What's up with Live Mail.. I did sign
up, but now I have no idea whats next

Junk Hotmail and get a Gmail instead.
You'll then be able to do as you wish.

As for Live Mail... signing up is to the Beta program.
For direct dowload try http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

From the "firsoftware.com" web page:

Please Note: Microsoft has recently decided that only paying members and existing 'valued' members will be able access Hotmail using outside services such as Hotmail Popper. Hotmail Popper will continue working with a "Hotmail Plus" (or equivalent MSN) account. It will also continue working if you have an older Hotmail account that Microsoft considers a 'valued' account.

OK, so what does microsoft consider a 'valued' account?

Originally OE(Outlook Express) and OL(Outlook 02/XP and greater) could retrieve/send mail for all free and fee based http accounts(hotmail.com or msn.com). A few years ago, Msft ceased to offer http access to new free accounts ***and*** free accounts that were not currently using OE or OL **and** free accounts that had used OE or OL but lapsed due to lack of access within the 30/60 day defunct/expired window.

Those remaining free accounts that were actively using OE or OL became grandfathered accounts with continued access via OE or OL.

Fee based accounts regardless of the policy change continued with full access via OE or OL.

Now Phase in Hotmail Popper..it provided a method for any of these free accounts regardless of the above policy to access the account via OE, OL or for a short period from WM.

As it now stands only the fee based accounts or those existing valued members(Grandfathered) are capable of the Hotmail Popper method.

Note: There are some quirks. As noted above, free http accounts were of two forms hotmail.com and msn.com. The msn.com free accounts are no longer available. Each of these forms used two different servers when configured in OE or OL. Some of the msn.com accounts work with Hotmail Popper others do not.

They all work fee or free with Windows Live Mail Desktop beta(WLMDB)

Finally, and to close the other loop....there are a few remaining msn.com legacy pop3 accounts continue to work in all pop3 capable Msft email clients OE, OL, WM, WMLDB. Recently Msn changed the protocol(incoming server, outgoing server, server port #'s, discontinued SPA, required SSL encryption) for these legacy accounts. By coincidence or error there have been a few isolated reports that those with grandfathered fee or free http **msn.com** or partnered http **msn.com** accounts can be accessed using the pop3 legacy settings in OE, OL and WM.
