Hotfix KB824146 can't be removed?

B

Bill

I've just updated to SP1 together with several hotfixes. On checking
the Control Panel/Add/Remove I see soemthing strnage. All other
hotfixes seem to be removable (ie. with remove option) except for
KB824146.

Further checking with a third party software called "Add Remove Plus"
I see a question mark against the KB824146 icon.

And so I was wondering whether this is the way it should be or is it
possible that the hotfix was incorrectly installed. If the latter
reason then how do I get rid of it and do a re-install.

Thank you.

Hi Jeff, It's best to read the tech specs to find out
all you can about hotfixes before you install them. Not
all of them can be removed. do a search at the MS site
for the KB article and see what it says.

I installed those hotfix updates by clicking tools/update in the
internet Explorer and if I'm not mistaken the hotfixes are designated
as critical updates. And prior to updating I've read somewhere that it
is essential that we install all critical updates.

Anyway, subsequent to my initial post, I read up on KB824146 and found
that it was supposed to be removable. So I'm more concerned now why
the KN 824146 in my PC does not have the removal option as was
mentioned in my initial post.

Any help would be appreciated.

I (XP-HE) have an uninstall option for said KB824146

Here is Microsoft page as to the matter, it appears that thiere is a utility
there to check if the update is installed. Thiere are various sections on
the page for different OS's, so perhaps scroll down to XP-section after
reading the top.

Yes you are mistaken!
if I'm not mistaken the hotfixes are designated
as critical updates. And prior to updating I've read
somewhere that it
is essential that we install all critical updates

Many critical updates are designed for an office type
enviroment and the security hole they are patching cannot
be exploited remotly so for the average home user they
are not needed. The advise to install all critical updates
is given for people who cannot read.Q811493 is one
example before the fix for this fix this update caused
many problems and to exploit this security hole an
attacker would have had to have access to your
keyboard. So uinless you have a marching band coming
through your house the average home user does not need
it. However KB824146 does not apply to this
