remove hotfix that "cannot be removed"

I need to remove a Windows XP hotfix (KB885250, to be exact).
Apparently, at some point, Microsoft has started "embedding" this fix
with other hotfixes. I'm assuming that is why when I look in the
Add/Remove programs list, it shows this hotfix as "cannot be removed".

Well, I need to remove it! Desperately!

I tried contacting MS and obtained the hotfix 895900. It did not resolve
the connection issue I am experiencing.

So, I need to know how one goes about removing such things or I need to
know how to determine which "master hotfix" installed this little gem
without my permission.

Is there a way?

TIA,

Open Explorer, look in the \Windows folder for folder \$hf_mig$ and open it.
Look for folder \KB885250 and open it. If there is a file spuninst.exe in
that folder then when you click on it it should remove KB885250

Okay, I found the file you mention and launched it. The computer sat for
a long time with the removal wizard up. It seems to be stuck on the
step, "Inspecting current configuration". Finally, it came back with an
error: "The handle is invalid".

Where do I go from here?
