Hot swapping ethernet cable to NICs?

E

EW

Anyone,
Simple question: can I swap my Ethernet cable from one NIC to another with
power on (on my host computer)? Or must I power down to switch between my
computer's two NICs?

The reason: I just installed another NIC to prepare for cable modem
Internet. The other NIC is used for Internet connection sharing with
another local computer. I wish to test the new NIC to see if it's working
properly.

Thanks.

I generally do not power down computers to switch network cables and have
never had a problem with it.

I did perform hot swaps and no smoke, no pops, no problems. Whew! Thanks

Most external cables are hot swappable - PS/2 mice is the only one I can
think of that fails to find any mice when plugged back in.
