cable unplugged error

NIC: on-board Intel Pro 100VE (latest drivers)
OS: MCE 2005 SP2 - fresh install

Problem(s): Cannot connect to anything, but can ping local machine. There
are *no* LEDs lit -- power or activity -- on the PCs ethernet port, but the
hardware is recognized in Windows and has no conflicts.

Have already tried:
- other known good ethernet cables
- rebooting router
- bypassing router and run cable directly from cable modem to PC
- uninstalling and reinstalling drivers
- cleaning pins inside ethernet port
- turning off any and all power saving (for NIC and MCE)

I suspect one of two things:
On-board LAN went south, OR...and I don't know how much stock I'd put into
this, but maybe the PSU is marginal?

Anything I might've missed? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes, it's enabled. Have even tried disbling, then cold boot, re-enable, then
cold boot again. This is a new machine with a fresh install so there's no
history of it working. Thx.
