Can XP Pro be configured to access the internet via NIC #1 using DHCP and
not NIC #2 when NIC #2 is enabled with a static IP address?
I have 2 machines at work: 1 machine is Windows XP Pro and the other machine
is Windows 2K Pro.
Both machines connect to the internet via via NIC #1 using DHCP and
auto-DNS.
I installed a 2nd NIC in each machine and use a crossover cable to connect
both computers via a static IP addresses on NIC #2.
I made NIC #1 the primary NIC for XP Pro using the advanced settings.
XP Pro always tries to use NIC #2 to access the internet and always fails
(when NIC #2 is enabled).
If I disable NIC #2 then XP Pro will successfully connects to the internet
using NIC #1
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can configure XP Pro to direct
applications (like IE) use NIC#1 to access the internet when NIC #2 is
enabled?
Please advise.
Thanks, Tracey
BTW
I set-up Windows 2K Pro with 2 NICs without any problems.
From the Windows 2K Pro machine: I readily connect to the internet via NIC
#1 without any problems and I can access the XP Pro file-shares using
Windows Explorer via NIC #2 without any problems.
