Hooking up old HP 560c printer to new Compaq SR1910NX computer

I just bought a new Compaq computer and want to use the old HP 560c printer I
have with it. The old printer used a parallel port, the new computer uses a
usb connection. I bought the Dynex Model DX-UBPC...USB to Parallel Converter
Cable to hook the old printer to the new computer. I used the drivers that
came with the computer because it said not to use the old drivers in the
installation.
The problem is: The computer recognizes the printer as the default printer,
but when I send an item to print it activates the printer, but does not print
the item. When I double click the printer icon it shows the item is printing,
but it will not print out the item. I have uninstalled the printer several
times and reinstalled with no luck. Any ideas on what to do now?

The drivers for this HP 560c printer are listed in XP. Connecting
this printer to a USB port on your PC should come up with a window
stating that "New Hardware was Found" and ask you if you want to
install it with a Yes or No button. Click Yes and it will install
automatically.
Do not use a parallel or serial port, use a USB port (or USB adapter).

The window you speak of did come up and I did click yes...everything
installed normally...except that the printer will not print. The computer I
have now only has a usb port to connect. That is the reason I used the
adapter from Parallel to usp.
Thank you Byte.
