home page navigation bar not displaying in broswer

I recently edited a page directly under my home page using FrontPage98, and when I published, I no longer had a navigation bar on my home page in IE. it shows in FP Editor, when opening the index.htm file, and in Preview. I have tried removing and inserting a new one, verifying hyperlinks, contacted my web host who unistnalled and reinstalled the extensions, as well as deleted my site. it is not wihtin a shared border.

Run Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and Preview in Browser to see if it fixes you local before you publish

I ran Recalculate and hit the Preview tab. As before, it looks fine in Preview mode, but still no navigation bar in IE.

I said preview in Browser - not Preview in FP
Preview in browser shows what is actually saved to disc

Are you publishing to a server that has the FP2002 extensions via FP's http
mode?

My web host has told me that the server does have FP2002 extensions. I publish to an http:// address.

You can double check this by opening your live site directly in FP, and then
Tools | Web Settings and you should see a version number that starts with
5.0.....

In both your top and bottom borders I see a banner but no nav bars applied
See http://www.skylakegallery.com/_borders/top.htm and
http://www.skylakegallery.com/_borders/bottom.htm

Suggests you open the site live (File open web http://www.skylakegallery.com/) and view your share borders pages in the _borders
folder
(Tools Web Settings Advanced - Show hidden folders),
then run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and View Navigation to check you nav view

| I opened http://www.skylakegallery.com in FP. Tools!Web Settings shows version 5.0.2.2623. The navigation bar shows here, but
still not in IE. Thank you for helping.

I did not insert the nav bar in the shared border becuase I thought that to to have the most flexibility it was better to insert it on each page individually, so it is on my home page outside the shared border. It has not been a problem for the past four years. Is that somehow creating my problem now? Should I delete the nav bar from all pages and insert it on the shared border?

No , that's just the normal place for it if you use shared borders
You could try it in the shared borders (before you delete it elsewhere) and make sure your home page filename is the same as
required by your host, plus none of your file name have spaces or punctuation

I found three old files which have been part of this site for three years that had spaces in the file names. I deleted them, published and still no change. After Recalculating links, I decided to get rid of some old webtrends links on several pages. My web host provided that service at one time, then discontinued it, but I never updated all of my pages. After deleting the tags on about 7 pages, I recalculated and published again. Voila! Navigation bar on the home page! Why? Thank you for all of your help. Without it I was a goner.

Problem fixed. See response to Stefan on 11/12. Thank you so much for your help and time. I don't understand why this worked, so any info would be appreciated.

The why is probably a broken tag in the webtrends script
- glad to hear you got it working
