FP98 missing navigation bars and links

G

Guest

I recently switched domain and web hosts. I edited my web site using FP98
and published to the new host. When I look at my site
(www.skylakegallery.com) in IE6, I see no navigation bars on any of my pages,
including the home page (index.htm for me, default.asp on my host server.
The techs at my new host say that they see the navigation bars. However, I
added some links at the top of my Exhibitions page (New Oils and Pastels and
the image both link to the page newoilsandpastels.htm), and the techs say
there are no links. When I preview in browser, everything looks fine. The
techs say it doesn not matter if I call my home page default.asp or
index.htm. I have recalcualted my hyperlinks many times. How do I fix this?
Thank you.

It does to FP
FP renames your home page when you publish to the 1st file top level named used by your host
- in your case http://www.skylakegallery.com/default.asp

You will notice there is a File not found at your site for
http://www.skylakegallery.com/index.htm

If using PWS in FP 98, rename your home page file name from index.htm to default.asp and republish
Or if not using PWS (and only using a Disc based web) ask you host to change the order of the top level file name to have index.htm
as the 1st one

PWS = Personal Web Server
This is usually installed by default when installing FP98.

I do have PWS, and I did rename my index.htm to default.asp. I recalculated
my hyperlinks and republished. Now in IE6 my home page has a navigation bar,
but it is not correct, it links only to New OIls & Pastels, not the child
links specified in the Front Pge Componenet properties. When I open
www.skylakegallery.com, the navigation is incorrect, but at first glance it
appears all my files are there. Thanx.

Open your live site in FP and check the nav view,
File Open Site http://www.skylakegallery.com/
(make sure your corrected home page has the home icon in it)
then run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
- also verify your nav bar properties

When I open www.skylakegallery.com, the Navigaiton view is completely
incorrect. There are 3 skylake Gallery home pages (default.asp). Only one
has the home icon on it, and it is not linked to anything. The one that is
linked, is only linked to a page 2 levels down, not home and child as
specified in the navigation bar. Most pages are missing entirely from the
navigation view. Only those linked (as children) to the one 2 levels down
from the home page show in the navigation view. I had tried removing that
page from the navigation view and then put it back and republished, but
everything was sdtill a mess. There are also many Unknown links is the
Hyperlink Status view. They show the hyperlink on my local web server.
There are also many hyperlinks that show OK, and they are listed on the live
site.

It seems that every time I make a change to my home page, default.asp, adn
publish, it puts an additional defautl.asp one on the live site navigation
view, but unlinked to anything. I can alter the live site in navigation view
and then it looks correct when I view it in IE6.

I stumbled upon something that seemed to work - at least it looks right in
IE6. If I renamed each .htm file on my web, the navigation bar appeared. So
I had to rename every.htm file. Thank you for your help.
