Home Network HELP

Here's my equipment;
Westell DSL Modem Linksys befw11s4 wifi router
Desktop #1 XP Home Ed. (nic) Desktop #2 W98 (nic)
Notebook XP Pro (wifi)

Here's my dilemma;
All three computers get online through the router. All computers are part of
the same workgroup, but I can't see any of the computers on the network.
None have firewall enabled (don't think that has anything to do with it
anyway). On desktop #2, when I dbl-click Network Neighborhood, it just hangs
with the 'flashlight icon. On the notebook, when I click, "My network
Places...Entire Network...MS Windows Network..." I do see the workgroup
name, but when I dbl-click that, I get a dialog box that say in effect I
don't have permission.

Could someone guide me though setting up this network?

Thanks in advance...........................

You'll need to make sure you have the same WORKGROUP name for each PC. You
should also enable sharing for each PC. Also make sure you're not mixing
protocols. You should run TCP/IP for all machines in your network. Using
NetBEUI and TCP/IP is problematic. The Win-98 machine may have defaulted to
NetBEUI so check it out and use only TCP/IP (with NetBios enabled).

You should ask your question in one of the networking newsgroups.
This newsgroup is for analog modem issues and this group may not be
frequented by many users knowledgeable in network problems.

You can only see computers who are sharing resources. Have you setup any
shares yet? (Printer, hardrives, XP shared folders)

The other thing to get it kicked off is to click
[start][run][\\computername] which should show you a specific computer and
what resources it is sharing.

My guess is that you aren't sharing any resources yet. Get on one of your
computers, open the printers folder, click on a printer icon and enable
sharing. Choose a sharename and see if that shows up in your network
neighbor hood or "computers near me". You could also
[start][run][\\computername] and see if the printer share shows up.
Computername being of course the network name of the computer you are
sharing the printer from. Keep your computer network names simple one word
names put the computer name in quotes when you [start][run]["three word
computername"].

Hope that helps.

I do have folders on all PC's shared, your suggestion about
[start][run][\\computername] worked for the W98 PC but not for the XP Home
PC. I still cannot see any of then if I use the "My network Places...Entire
Network...MS Windows Network..." technique. The XP Home PC lists the W98 PC,
but does not allow me to browse the shared folder.

Someone suggested that my problem with the XP Home PC is that I don't have
the "Guest" account enabled. I think I do, since when I sign into that
account I do get onto the Internet.

Keep your computer network names simple one word

Are the names case sensitive? I don't think so.

My problem was ZoneAlarm. I have since put a range of IP's in the trusted
zone and I can now see all

Thanks to all
