what would i have to do to get my own computer to act as
a server. i am talking about using it to get extremely
high speed internet and without paying $100 a month to my
current ISP. is it possible?

Not sure what you're asking here ... the only way you can speed up your
Internet connection is to order a faster connection from your provider (if
one is available). Otherwise there's nothing you can do to your computer to
make it make your connection faster.

You sound like you want to be your own ISP pretty much. Problem is, computer
power won't get you higher speed internet. You could have a million dollars
worth of computer equipment in your house, but without bandwidth, you are
lost.

You have to get your bandwidth (connection to the worldwideweb) from
somewhere. Your ISP has to pay thousands a month for their bandwidth and they
charge you a fee to share a part of their bandwidth.

Basically, all an ISP server does is routes and controls bandwidth to your
area and eventually to your house.

i knew this also

thats exactly what i want to do... but thousands a month
for bandwidth is kind of insane for someone without a
$100,000 yearly income. Is it possible to buy, lets say,
1MB per second bandwidth and end up paying less than
going through a normal ISP that would charge you $75(???)?

There's a saying that applies here:

"You get what you pay for."

If you want high-bandwidth then you have to pay someone what they want to
provide it to you. If you want a low bill then you have to accept the
bandwidth that you're willing to pay for. There ain't no free lunch.
