Hit Counter

My hit counter has a red X in placeof the counter. It does't seem to work
now and it once did. Over the last few days I've experienced some
inaccessible boot device errors and have had to run chkdsk to repair.
Finally, after several days of trouble, all is back up and working except
the hit counter.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the problem?

My experience is that the hit counter gets corrupted easily.
You will not see it if you are doing a preview. The hit counter only
displays when it is published on the server.

If that is not working, then remove it. I would delete it from the server
before adding the hit counter back to your local copy. You may have to
publish it with out the counter. Once the counter is reinstalled on the
local version, check the properties and set the number of hits to the number
you believe is correct (if this is important).

Note: It is important to publish the web with out the counter present so
that it will delete the count on the server (which is corrupted).
