Hit Counter not working

I am using MS FP 2003. All of a sudden my hit counter is not working. It
just displays a red X. I can't see how to fix this in FP. In design mode it
juat shows hit counter. Ideally I would likle the counter to display at the
count where it left off. Any ideas?

Republish the page, using HTTP mode (not FTP) and remember, the counter
requires the server extensions; check with your host that these are
installed correctly.

How exactly do I republish the page?

You didn't say, but are you editing the page on your local machine, or directly on
the remote server?
If you're editing on the remote, you don't need to publish. If on the local, when you
finish editing, right click on the page (in the folder list) and select Publish
Selected Files.

To reset the counter, open the page in the editor, right click on the [Hit Counter]
and you'll see the properties to reset.

As Andrew mentioned, you also need to check with your host that the FP extensions are
in good health.

If you can't publish, it's a good indication that the extensions are hosed. Read the
help file under Publish to be sure you're publishing using http, NOT FTP.

I am editing directly on the remote server. When I right click on the
counter, I selected Fron Page component properties. I reset the counter and
saved the page. I refreshed my page and the counter is still not showing.
It still shows the red X.

And your host said what about FP extensions? You seem determined to ignore that part.

Host said they do not support it even though it has been working up to now.
So I am on my own.

If they don't support FP extensions, it's impossible for the FP hitcounter
to work.
