Hiragana katakana and Kanji.

OOOOOOOOk.
With the language bar, when set to kana, it types katakana. I cannot
figure out how to get it to type hiragana, I know you can change it in word,
but since hiragana and kanji are the two that are most written in general
conversation, that would make it a little easier. Is there a pref. that I
have to set hiragana to for default? or something?
Is there a manual or something for how all this works? it would make it a
lot easier.
