Highlights disappear after saving document in Word 2002

I am having a problem where I am editing RTF documents that were created by
someone else. For awhile I could highlight text, save the document and the
text would comeback highlighted when I opened the document again. Now, in the
same documents that still show some of the old highlighting, when I try and
highlight anything, the highlighting disappears when I save and reopen.
Running Word 2002 SP3. Any ideas? Thanks.

AFAIK, no programs maintain the highlighting over a close/reopen of a file.
Maybe it's an add-on that quit working?

Thanks pops I don't think it is an add on issue. It is a very fresh
corporate install. And it seems to work in some documents but not others.
Maybe I have a template problem but I'm not so sure where such things would
be "stored" or configured in a template. I appreciate the response though.
