Highlighting disappears when reopened

I highlight text in a document (word 2007) using the highlight tool, and save
it during the document, everythigns fine. But when i close the document and
reopen it the highlighting disappears. Sometimes the highlighting disappears
entirely, and sometimes it leaves fragments of text or spaces highlighted all
over the document.

I have the latest graphics drivers, i have checked that highlighting is
viewable in the options, and changing views does not make the highlighting
appear.
This forum text shows a guy wiht the same problem

None of the solutions posted for him worked for me. I have the problem on
both my old computer and my new one.
Have had this problem for ages, so I hope you can help :)

Is this with a particular document, or can you reproduce it in any document
with highlighting?

Welll it has happened on many documents, but I do not know how to repeat it.
It has been happening for nearly a year to various documents.

Are you saying that it doesn't necessarily happen with all documents that
make use of highlighting? Depending on how the problematic documents were
created (for example, if they were all based on the same template), it is
possible that some sort of corruption is causing the problem. If you copy
the contents, not including the final paragraph mark (¶) of the document, to
a new file, does that make a difference?

To show/hide paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting marks, you can
press Ctrl+Shift+8.

I don't think that does anything, but Im having difficulties finding one of
the documents it has happened to. I have the settings so that when you paste
into a new document it copies the formatting of the new document though, so
that removes all of the highlighting.

I don't use templates, just blank pages, or the default template I guess.
But when i start new documents I choose blank page, so no template on those.

Well ... there's always a template involved.
