i'm on DSL through centurytel. got my router hooked up on my computer and
everything's working well. how do i hook up a second computer for my
girlfriend in another room? thought it should be simple, but can't seem to
get it up and running.

Is your girlfriend's computer getting an IP address through your router?
(Assuming you get a private IP address from said router and said router gets
the public IP address from your DSL modem, correct?)
