High CPU usage when system is idle

Hi,

when my server is idle (99% cpu time for system idle process), the
server responds stil jerky and the cpu usage in the status bar and on
the performance tab is reported at 20%...

Is there a way to determine which is causing this ? It sure isn't a
process. I've disabled almost all services but that doesn't help.
Could it be a driver that is causing the high cpu usage, if so how can
I determine which one....

For detailed information on CPU usage you can run Performance Monitor
- The Processor object counters will show you detailed information about
the CPU
- The Process object will show you detailed information about each process
running on the machine (including their CPU usage)

Hi,

using the performance monitor I was unable to determine the process.
However, using the process explorer from sysinternals, it appears that
the Hardware Interrupts Process is taking 15 to 20% of cpu time.

You can choose to answer the question or not it is up to you. Outlook Express comes with Windows.

You must be kidding right, I know what outlook express is, but what
does it have to do with this topic ?

OK. Outlook Express msimn.exe to be exact can cause this issue. Plyers Plyers Plyers.

Ok, thanks for the follow up. I did some testing today. It appearred
that one of the network cards of the Proliant DL360 was faulty, as
soon as I disbaled the card, processor usage went down to 0-1%,
swapping cables didn't matter. Finally I pulled out the disks and
placed them in another DL360 and in that one the problem doesn't occur
with the network card enabled, so it must be a hardware problem. I'm
calling HP tomorrow...

Well I was close? LOL. Sorry I am glad you got it figured out Outlook Express or no Outlook Express.
