Open the file in an image editor and see what mode it's in.
Or if you know the pixel dimensions just do the math -- all 10, 12, 14 and 16
bit scans are double the size of 8 bit files because of the way the data is
stored. 8 bit RGB files should be 3x as large as the pixel count, high bit
files twice this size.
