hideing the taskbar

I find that after I have been using the computer for a
long while that it stops hideing the taskbar. I can
close all windows but the taskbar stays at the bottom. I
tried unchecking the option to keep it at the top of all
windows as someone said last night but that did not work.
I also went tonight and did ctrl alt del and stopped all
programs but the ones you could not stop still it did not
hide. I went to properties and unchecked both the keep
it at the top and hide then rechecked still it only
worked one time. I then did another ctrl alt del and
stop explorer which only left the blank screen I then
used the option in ctrl alt del under file to restart
explorer and then the taskbar started hideing again. I
am beginning to think this is a problem with xp that
after opening and closing different windows and software
it at some point stops hideing the taskbar and that no
one complains about it since it does not happen to most.
I have notice that tonight I did not notice it until I
had spent up to 8 hours or more of opening windows and
software.

any ideas out there on this.

I notice it (occasionally) too, and can't put my finger on the full
pattern.

I have noticed that if one of the applications that is running is in a
state asking for user input on a dialogue box the task bar shows up.

For example, my Microsoft Project is set for doing doing saves every 15
minutes and to prompt before saving. When Project is minimized, but
ready to save, the Task bar seems to come up and will go away after I
take care of Project's request.

I also notice the Task Bar gets stuck up when the synchronisation
between my laptop and the server completes. It's not asking for
anything other than to "close", but when I close that completion dialog
box, the task bar goes away.

All I can think is that there are some system window events that the
task bar responds to, and some applications raise those events. Those
events may or may not be correct raised, but Task Bar reacts anyway. My
hunch it's application specific and not necessarily an issue fixable in
XP.

This may sound rediculous, but when you RT> on open
taskbar unlock the taskbar first. Then when finished,
lock it again.

Tried all the things above no help also have the problem
right now for some reason . I turned on my computer and
went to a few sites on line then started playing solatare
when I notice that the taskbar was not auto hideing. I
check the option and even changed them by unchecking and
checking and it auto hides one time then stays. I am
sure if I log off and back on it would work again. I
thought it might be that the computer was to busy but I
check cpu usage is low low low. One way or the other I
am going to figure this out.
