Hidden Files & Folders Problem

Guest

I'm facing 2 problems.
some days before I'd given my usb harddrive to someone
but when I received my usb harddisk back, it was infected by many viruses
my updated Antivirus Software (eTrust ezAntivirus) removed & cleaned all
viruses
but now I'm facing two problems
1-when I do rightclick on my primery harddrive or on usb harddrive, there
are displaying some strange characters in the right click popup menu instead
of OPEN and EXPLORE words

2- I tried to show hidden files and folders from My Computer>Tools>Folder
Options>View>'show hidden files and folders'>apply>ok
but hidden files and folders didn't display
I opened My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View>
but still 'Do not show hidden files and folders' option was checked although
I had checked 'show hidden files and folders' option
I tried again to check 'show hidden files and folders' option>apply>ok
but again when I opened My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View window
'do not show hidden files and folders' option was checked
It seems as something forcing 'do not show hidden files and folders' option
to remain checked always
please help me to slove these 2 problems
Regards

I think you're probably making an inaccurate assumption when you say
that your antivirus software successfully removed all infections from
your computer. When you see your antivirus software find and remove a
number of infections, it's tempting to convince yourself that now
everything's okay. But, in general, there's no way of being sure that
the scan didn't miss an infection or two. And if your computer is
still acting funny directly after a major viral outbreak, it's
reasonable to assume that some infections still exist.

I would suggest double-checking that you're using the absolute newest
virus definitions for your antivirus software. Beyond that, you should
probably run at least one more entirely different antivirus product on
your machine to see if it catches anything your original scan didn't
find.

You should also run a program like AdAware, which will scan your
computer for both spyware and malware. Some of the symptoms you've
described could fall into the malware category -- not highly
destructive viruses, but still very disruptive and annoying to deal
with.

AdAware is free for personal use, so it's a particularly good option.

Viruses and malware often change system settings. Removing the
viruses doesn't necessarily put the previous system settings back.
In the case of hidden files and folders, it is possible that the
registry permissions have been changed to prevent you from changing
these settings. You might try changing them with the registry editor
to see if you have a problem like that.

It is actually a virus name W32.ra*** but I have removed it from my
computer manually
coz no antivirus detects it .
-Open search window , go to Tool->folder option and go to veiw tab
then uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Then select the advance option to search from hidden files
write "ravmon.exe" or search only "a",search all you drives after
attaching all the removable device with it (USB,
EXternal Hard etc) it will show the hidden files in all drives ,
Select them all and delete the by holding "shift" and by pressing
delete button ,
Then search all the drives for " Autorun.inf " Delete the by the same
process by pressing "Shift" and "delete" buttons
Again search for "svchost.exe" and "MDM.exe" in WINDOWS folder and
delete them too.
Restart your computer and enjoy .
If anybody get helped by this information please inform me.
Good Luck
