Hibernation problem

Guest

I am running A 2.66G Celeron, 512 MB RAM, XP home SP2, have a Linksys cable
modem (BEFCMU10 V3), and a D-Link wireless router. When I am away from the PC
for a period of time, my internet connection seems to go into "hibernation".
I have accessed the properties of the Ethernet adapter and disabled the
hibernation function. No change. I still have to reboot to use the internet,
or uninstall and reinstall the adapter (pain). My daughter's PC is using the
wireless access and is not affected by this.

What am I doing wrong?

Michael,

If you're certain that the WiFi card is not going into standby to save power,
then make sure that you're only running ONE WiFi manager program. The latter
was a problem for me when I started using my laptop.

Does your computer use a wired or wireless connection to the router?

When it's not working, what does the network connection show if you
right-click it and click Status | Support?

You shouldn't need to reboot the computer or uninstall/reinstall the
adapter to wake up the connection. The next time the problem occurs,
try this:

1. Right-click and disable the network connection.
2. Right-click and enable the network connection.

My PC is (CAT5) wired to the router. That's another odd thing. When I check
the connection status, it shows connected at 100.0 Mbps, but when I fire up
the browser, it shows "finding site "www......." but soon times out as if
there is no connection whatsoever, regardless of the site I'm trying to
access.

I have tried the disable / enable process. No effect. I have tried IPCONFIG.
No effect.

Frustrating.

That's puzzling. And frustrating.

When it's not working, what does the network connection show if you
right-click it and click Status | Support? What does "ipconfig /all"
show? Does the connection have an IP address, subnet mask, default
gateway, and DNS server?

What happens if you right-click the connection and click Repair?

Is your computer running any network-related software? VPN?

Can you think of any other relevant information to help diagnose the
problem?

I'd download and install the latest NIC driver from the manufacturer's
web site.
