Hibernate Problem

My PC (Compaq 400Mhz PII) will only hibernate once after a reboot. If I try
a second time it freezes on the "preparing to hibernate" screen and I have to
power it down to reboot. any idea what could cause that? It's a complete
freeze, no error message, and it reboots fine after I pull the plug and then
power it back on.

It always hibernates first time after a reboot. I think it always freezes
second time, but possibly could make it to third time sometimes. I try to
remember and power it down after it's hibernated once.

Have you tried the latest BIOS from Compaq. Also do windowsupdate.

Yes, windows is updated (except fpr SP2) and the bios has been updated
although I haven't checked lately to see if Compaq still supports it.

Just a very weird problem. Everybody else who has hibernate problems can't
hibernate at all, I can, but only once.
