Hibernate wakes immediately

I used to hibernate my comp all the time, but now it hibernates and
immediately comes out of hibernation as if i had hit the power button right
after it shut itself off. Going into standby and shutting down works
properly, however. I have latest mobo drivers and all latest updates on
windows. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....i've been having this
problem for quite a while now.

Have you checked things in the bios such as wake on lan or wake on modem.
Also go into device manger and check modem, lan cards, keyboard and mouse
for wake from standby settings as any could be causing your problem.

I have checked all these things and made sure that none of those options were
selected. The problem persists, however...

I'm having the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite notebook (it started
doing this around a week ago). If I either hibernate or standby, it resumes
operation after anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds. I spent the entire day
yesterday disabling various device drivers, scrutinizing and tweaking BIOS
settings, etc. and eventually even reloading XP Pro, but the problem persists.

Any clues as to where to look next would be greatly appreciated.

I have found and fixed the cause of my problem. My machine had been infected
with a trojan that wedged itself into winlogin, and apparently didn't want my
machine to hibernate or standby (stinkin' trojans!).

The trojan I had appears as an unsigned browser helper object labeled
"MSEvents". Micorsoft Antispyware (beta) would identify it as spyware, but
was unable to remove it.

Check your IE Add-ons (Tools, Manage Add-ons...) and look for one named
MSEvents. I used the very good instructions found here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for...janVundoB-Search42com-MSevents-tx18610-0.html
to finally remove it, and both hibernate and standby now work fine.

Good Luck!
