| Regarding One Care - it provides the following: Antivirus, Antispyware,
| Firewall capability, Performance tune-ups (Defrag, disk cleanup, etc.) and
| Data backup and restore. Included installation of Windows Defender.
|
| Data backup is a file backup feature resembling the same offered by Acronis.
| All features can be run manually or by schedule. One feature I do not like
| is in during a tune-up defrag and the antivirus utilities are included and
| take time.
|
| License permits installation on three computers, update is automatic via
| Microsoft update. Retail price is about $45 however often on sale
| (rebates). A interesting feature of a version I have state activation
| should be done by December 2008 ()right 2008).
|

As an anti virus application OneCare is one of the worst in the anti virus industry with one
of the worst catch rates.

There are *much* better solutions out there such as Kaspersky and NOD32 and are suggested
all other mentioned.

Performance tune-ups (Defrag, disk cleanup, etc.) comes stock with the OS.

Data backup and restore also comes stock with the OS.

WinXP also hasd a FireWall application but there are thirds party software apllications that
are much better.

All in all, OneCare is just not worth it.

Hi Everyone:

Since AVG announced they won't support the free edition next year, I will
uninstall it.

Question is will MSFT's "Defender" program do the trick in protecting my
WINXP Home Edition with SER P2?

I have heard from some that it is a great program for security?

tks again

(this note was posted on another newsgroup also.
This is normal for AVG, when they stop supporting the older version of
AVG. You can go to http://www.free.grisoft.com and download the latest
free version of AVG which is version 7.5. This usually happens every two
years as that seems to be the normal life cycle of each version.

I got all that that 10th time someone posted the exact same thing in this
thread. It's a good idea for everyone to read the other posts before
repeating them all.

And what's your point in posting this or in looking again at the thread if
your question was answered with the first response?

The point of reading this thread is that someone might post something
*different*.

What more could you be you looking for? It's been said many ways, many
times. This is Usenet, folks post what they want.

There could be plenty more posted on the topic. Who knows what new
information there would be until I read it but there is definately no end to
what the could be.

I don't know why this group is different but usually people read a post to
make sure what they are saying isn't a repeat. The usual exception is when 2
replies come in at similar times.

There is nothing to argue about here rock, although I suspect you would like
to. The same information was posted by many many people, I commented on it.
That was a fair comment. Get over it.

I'm not arguing. What I'm trying to convey to you is that this is Usenet -
not a moderated forum. Whatever you might be used to elsewhere you need to
understand that people will post what they want.

I agree that a whole bunch of people - for some reason I don't understand -
decided to post the exact same information, many of them well after the
others had posted the same. However, your replying to that one person
doesn't do much good, and why not reply to all the others then who also
posted duplicates?

So we are back were this all started. Your response to that one person was
as much a waste as their late response to the thread. You weren't
accomplishing anything , nor were they, so why do the same thing they were
doing? Besides which, you were the one who posted the original question.
Why bite the hand that's feeding you? Maybe next time they won't want to
help you out.

I doubt this is going to do much good but so be it.

I am talking about other usenet groups. Usually people read the thread
before replying. I'm not sure why they don't here.

usually people will read a thread once they post to it. No need to reply to
everyone. These things do make a difference as people are always reminding
other's of how newgroups work (don't multipost etc).

I didn't post the original thread, bill did. I was just using a trick I
learnt many years ago to make it look like I was posting the original
thread. The reason I did this was to get rid of the forward dated post from
the top of everyone's newsreader.

FALSE! I have had posts censored many times and so have others. This is
MS' little corner of Usenet.

Not to worry Rock, Michael seems to be unaware of the phenomena of(and
variances of) usenet propagation delay.

You're not the only clueless one here. Propogation delays are not going to
be the issue.

Michael

It's not just this thread either, Michael. You need to look at what people
are saying. You can have the last word if you want. My part in this thread
is done.

Finally :-) This really was a non issue.

Michael

Windows Defender is an anti-spyware tool NOT anti-virus program. You
need both to keep you protected all the time.

I have not read nor heard that AVG FREE will not be supported! In any
case, the only support you got was via Free forums or thru MS
Newsgroups!!!. People still think that AVG is a MS product and continue
posting problems here!.

As far as I know you will continue getting the new signature files until
it becomes unproductive or unsustainable in terms of costs/benefits!
