Do you know if there is a way of finding out the level of
ink available in the cartridge?

Also I have recently installed a digital camera to one of
my USB's and now the scanner does not work? Any ideas.

a) That's part of the printer driver software, not part of Windows. Look
in your manual to see whether there's some kind of status monitor.

b) Are you hot swapping the USB devices or is one connected to one and one
to another... if the second then it sounds like an insufficient PSU (power
supply unit).
