i have 2 problems. i have noticed that ever since upgrading to office 2003 that when i access my outlook from another machine running office 2000 outlook hangs and i have to kill it in task manager.

today my outlook 2003 started doing the same thing. i really don't want to be forced into rebuilding my machine again. this problem happens for users in my organization too.

i have noticed dozens of complaints on this board and not one has been answered or resolved by microsoft. i wonder if i use one of my $250 support calls if it would get fixed?

If you access the same mail store using Outlook 2000 and 2003 you
should set the 2000 machine to start using the /cleanfreebusy switch
as a startup switch. There's a problem with Outlook 2000 hanging
otherwise because a 4th field was added to the free/busy information
and Outlook 2000 can't handle it.

Not sure about that one. You can try deleting your outcmd.dat file
(make sure for WinXP you have hidden and system folders set to show
when you search for it). You can also try starting Outlook 2003 using
the /cleanviews switch and see if that helps.

Another possibility is if you are using any Outlook addins that aren't
updated to work with Outlook 2003 or anti-virus software from Symantec
or WinFax Pro. Those are known to hang Outlook 2003 on exit. If you
have the A-V software see if disabling the email scanning,
Outlook/Exchange integration and script stopper helps. For WinFax some
people have been OK with their latest update (10.03) others haven't.
The only sure solution there is disabling all Outlook/Exchange
integration.

i have tried your recommendations. i deleted the outcmd.dat file, but that did not help. i tried the /cleanviews switch, but that doesn't seem to even work in 2003

i don't have any add-ins. i have disabled the anti-virus software. if i delete my profile and then open outlook and do not create a profile it will open a close just fine. so it seems that it must be something with my mailbox?

/cleanviews works in Outlook 2003.

Did you try the /cleanfreebusy switch?

i might have been using the wrong slash. anyway, i have solved the problem by way of downgrading to office 2000. there were a couple of things in outlook and excel that didn't work quite right anyway so now i am back up and running.

thanks for your help ken.
