HelpSvc.exe ?

D

David Martin

Once or twice a week a program called HelpSvc.exe takes control over my
computer, using almost 100% of CPU for ten or fifteen minutes and constantly
accessing my disk drive. Then it seems to write several files to the
directory \windows\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\DataCol . The files have names like
CollectedData_4201.xml .

These appear to be Windows XP system files.

Does anyone know what is going on ? Can I make it stop? Should I?

Thanks for any insight,

David

www.google.com 'windows XP helpsvc.exe' comes up with the following
apparently useful hit:

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_h.htm

groups.google.com (same search) provides even more information but no
sure-fire cures (although I didn't read all the hits - I'll let you do
that. 8>.)
