I want to make windows mail my default email but outlook keeps popping up..
how do i fix this...

In windows Mail, select menu item:

Tools|Options

If "General" tab is not already selected then click on it.

Near bottom, look for "This applicartion is NOT the default mail
handler"

Click on "Make Default" button thenb on "OK"

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, and select Windows Mail
Click OK

Then, follow these steps:

Click Set your default programs
Select Windows Mail from the list
Click Set this program as default
Click OK.

Can I ask, if you have Outlook, why you are wanting to use the inferior
Windows Mail instead?

I suppose it all depends on what you are used to.
I have access to both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007,
but I prefer Microsoft's free email programs because they are
snappier (less lethargic), and tend to give more useful error
diagnostics than Outlook. I don't need the bells and whistles.

That's true - but if the OP has Outlook, then presumably he paid for
it.....seems daft not to use a program he's paid for...
