hi, can anyone help please I have no sound,I have tried the following
1- there was no other sound card program running
2-sound card is turned on and configured
3-installed drivers are signed
4-have updated drivers
5-have rolled back driver
6- devise manager shows no hardware conflict
7- have uninstalled and reinstalled sound card

points 5 and 7 both work until I come out of window, when I return sound no
longer works!
have tried start up to save settings but doesn't work
..
thank you to the two replies from my previous message but sound still does
not work!
have checked speakers and I have cleaned the sound card,
I have changed the port for the sound card still no joy
message keeps saying I might have another program running using the sound
but I don't.
have already scanned computer for viruses and is ok.
do I need a new cpu this one is about 4 yrs old?

Do you have the installation disk that came with the mother board?

Uninstall any sound drivers and any unknown devices in Device Manager.
Insert the CD and install the sound driver.

If you don't have the CD uninstall the sound card and drivers if there
is a seperate card an and reboot and see if there is onboard sound.

It sounds like some sort of conflict. If the above doesn't sort it, try
doing a Windows repair. You need the disk for that and if you have an
older version you might find a repair rather a problem.

Which begs another question:, do you have a really old computer? Some
hardware might have conflicts with XP updates. How does the system
behave with the old settings restored?

You won't be able to ditch XP service pack 2, so a reinstall is
required to find that out.
