Help - XP Boot Failure

I using Linux to post.

2 problems:

Laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) ran out of juice and shutdown.
I plugged it in and rebooted. Black screen of death.
I tried it again - same result. I then tried safe mode - same result.
I then tried safe mode and press ESC to disable a347bus.sys from loading.

OK - I'm now in.

I then read that I should try to boot from XP CD and use recovery console.

OK - I do this and go to get a coffee after press R for console.

I come back and the machine has rebooted and is attempting to install XP!
I abort.

I reboot XP CD and use recovery console again. I run CHKDSK /P
1 problem found.

I reboot. Setup is again trying to install XP. I need to abort this.

How?

How?

Press & hold F8 right after the BIOS post. Select "Last known good configuration". If that
fails too, try "Safe Mode" instead. If you can get in, do a system restore to a date when all
was well.

Failing that, and if no one else responds with a better solution, you may have to continue with
the installation, only use a "Repair Installation" to preserve data & installed programs...
