help with IE6SP1 and Win98SE

Hi,

I'm running Win98SE and IE6SP1. My virus protection
software was not activated temporarily and a
Downloader.Trojan virus infected my system. It also
introduced Trojan.ByteVerify. I've cleaned my system in
Normal and Safe Modes with my Norton Antivirus software but
each time I opened up IE the computer was reinfected. I
removed all my temp and temp. internet files but somehow the
trojan keeps returning and modifying the registry to install
http://www.top-search.us/index.html and
http://www.top-search.us/search.html as my defaults. I've
also tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling IE6 to no
avail. Is this some malware and not just a virus, since my
system is supposedly "clean" after running the antivirus?
I do appear to have some adware running such as Deskadserv,
Deskadkeep, Bargains (which all appear when I press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete).

Any help/advice appreciated.
