HELP! -Windows Activiation Mode

I bought my computer w/ Windows XP Home Edition installed. One night I had
not problems and the next day when I tried to log on, I had separate
administratvie and guest user accounts, a window popped up saying "Windows
Activation Mode" and that I needed to update my version of Windows XP and
asked yes/no. If/When I click yes, it says it has been updated and I can
exit. Then it logs me off. I try to log on and am back to square one. If
if click no, it logs me off. Therefore, I can't even log onto me computer.
HP won't help without charging me b/c my warranty has expired. Microsoft
refers me back to HP since I bought the computer with the software installed
or wants to charge me. My thesis for my master's degree is due in a week and
I despirately need help with this.

Windows was pre-activated on your computer by HP. There is no need to
activate again (unless you have made serious hardware changes.) Therefore,
the most likely cause for your problem is a virus or spyware.
