Help! win2k box wants to be a master browser, can't see PDC

B

Bob

I realized there was a problem when my win2k machine could see all computers in
the network except the PDC. I thought, that's strange... I can't even ping its
IP address. Nothing I do can correct the problem, and the PDC is complaining in
its event log that

'the master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
<problem computer> that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_E100B1. The master browser is stopping or election is being
forced.'

However I looked in the problem computer's registry to see if it was configured
to be a master browser, and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\IsDomain
Master is False.

I don't know what to do short of reinstalling the OS. I've never seen this
behavior before.

Any help would be appreciated,

Bob

Stop and disable the Computer Browser service on the problem Win2K machine.

Did that, rebooted, checked that it wasn't running. Maybe that will stop the
browser election warning on the PDC, but I still can see the PDC from the
problem machine. Anything else I can do?

I found the problem... it was with the PDC. The browser stuff was just a
side-effect.
